Mini Review: Yonex SHT-PRO Power Cushion Pro Tennis Shoes

I’m calling this a mini-review of the Yonex SHT-Pro because I had to return the shoes a couple of days after returning them because of the fit. Hopefully, my impressions and experience can provide some guidance when considering this brand and model.

The Yonex Power Cushion Pro tennis shoes are the model worn by the Australian Open and French Open champion, Stanislas Wawrinka. The shoes are described as possessing exceptional cushioning, support and stability for the serious tennis player. The Yonex Power Cushion technology is designed to provide maximum support, smooth movement and energy transfer on the tennis court surface.

Yonex SHT-Pro Gray_Green

The shoes are available in many different colors. Navy/Red, White/Grey/Red, Red/Grey, White/Red and the color that I tried for myself: Grey/Yellow. I have seen both the White/Red and the Grey/Yellow in person. Both of these colors combinations are very nice. The White/Red give off a very business like image, simple, understated and even a bit on the elegant side. The Grey/Yellow combination are also nice but give off a bit of a rebellious nature, with a little bit of flash and boldness that is just good enough to make a statement without saying it too loudly. The two layer overlay over the toe cap gives it a sharp, 3-D checkerboard look. The sole of the shoe look like they would fit the bill for hardcourt tennis just fine. The sole is split between the traditional herringbone pattern that is spaced close together and faces vertically. The other side of the sole has a herringbone pattern that is spaced farther apart and faces horizontally. This dual pattern no doubt helps with the lateral, forward and backward movements required on a tennis court.Yonex SHT-Pro Sole

I ordered a size 12, which is my normal size. I am an overpronator with low/no arches so I tend to gravitate to wider width shoes. The Yonex SHT-Pro fit perfectly length wise, but were too loose in the inner/outer arch area of the foot. I usually don’t use the very last set of lace holes on tennis shoes but I did try it to see if I could tighten up the fit. Unfortunately, that caused the top line of the shoe to buckle out sideways during walking. Obviously I couldn’t keep the shoe bacause of this. I was very disappointed. In the short time I spent with the Yonex SHT-Pro shoe, it grew on me. The color was perfect and the rest of the fit was great, but the fit just wasn’t there and I had to sadly return them. My opinion is that the Yonex SHT-Pro are on the narrow side and made for medium width feet. If my feet fit the bill, I would currently be playing in them right now.
