Trail running shoes and hiking boots are starting to include the latest technology available for increased comfort, fit and traction. In the article titled All Teched Out, by Peter Verry found in FootwearNews, some upcoming models are incorporating the latest technological advances in their trail shoes and hiking boots. Everything from waterproof membranes, megagrip outsoles and mesh uppers are making a splash in models that will be introduced later in the year. Here, you can get a glimpse of shoe models with the newest technology and what will be seen soon in stores.
Vibram Megagrip outsoles are a high performing rubber compound that does it all. This material provides increased grip on both wet and dry surfaces with an increased level of longevity and adaptable to multiple surfaces. It is the ideal outsole and will be found in the upcoming Vasque Breeze WT GTX Hiking boots, and the Altra Olympus 4 trail running shoes. Vibram’s Arctic Grip Trac outsoles are another high performing compound that offers grip on wet slippery ice. They have partnered with several boot manufactures to highlight their newest technology in upcoming models. One of these models is the Lowa Nabucco Evo GTX.
The latest in shoe lacing technology is also making an appearance in the shoes appearing this year. Columbia’s speed lacing system, which allows for Shoe laces to be adjusted quickly for a tighter more secure fit. The speed lacing system can be found in the Columbia Facet 30. The Facet 30 is a women’s trail shoe that also features OutDry technology: a one piece construction system that keeps the feet dry at all times.
Solomon’s Contagrip outsoles, which provide maximum traction on mixed terrain and extended durability. The aggressive sole pattern combined with a more durable compound provide traction on all surfaces. This system can be found on the Salomon Wildcross Trail running shoes, one of many models that feature this latest technology.
